Why does my account have a reserve or hold on it?

Learn more about why your funds may appear as "on hold," and when your account reserve or held amount becomes available.

As part of WeTravel's standard account protections, accounts may have a reserve or hold applied to their payments. A reserve means that a portion of your payments is temporarily held back rather than paid out to you right away. A hold works similarly. This is standard practice across payment providers, and the reason can vary from account to account.

It's especially relevant for travel businesses, since travelers often pay for a trip months before it departs. That gap between payment and departure is exactly when a cancellation, refund, or dispute is most likely to come up - the reserve or hold gives you a buffer to cover that risk and protects both you and your travelers if a refund is ever needed.

A few things worth knowing:

  • A reserve or hold doesn't limit your ability to take new payments - it only affects when that held portion becomes available to you.

  • Depending on the type, it may be tied to individual trips or to the account overall, and is released once the relevant conditions are met, such as when the trip is completed without a dispute, or after a set holding period.

  • Reserved or held funds are still available to cover refunds to travelers and other obligations on the account if needed.

  • Reserves and holds are reviewed periodically and may be adjusted or released over time.

You can see your current reserve or held amount by clicking into any currency wallet in your account.
