Platform Translations

Learn how WeTravel automatically translates your travelers' booking experience, which languages are supported, and what parts of your trip page and booking journey are translated.

WeTravel automatically displays your trip page and booking experience in your travelers' preferred language. When someone visits your WeTravel page, we detect their language and translate the platform interface automatically, creating a seamless experience from the moment they browse your trip through checkout, automated emails, and the Manage Booking portal.

If you welcome travelers from multiple countries, this helps you provide a more accessible and professional booking experience, build trust with international audiences, and reduce the need for browser-based translation tools.

Supported Languages

Your travelers can currently view the WeTravel interface in English, plus six additional languages:

  • Spanish

  • French

  • Italian

  • German

  • Portuguese

  • Dutch

We're planning to expand this list with additional languages in future releases.

How Language Detection Works

When a traveler first visits your WeTravel trip page, itinerary, or an embedded booking widget, we automatically detect their preferred language using the IP address location (GeoIP). That language preference is then stored in a browser cookie and carried throughout their booking journey, including checkout, automated emails, and the Manage Booking portal.

Note: English is the default language when none of the other six languages is detected. The language picker is always shown to travelers, and includes English as a selectable option alongside the six supported languages.

What Gets Translated

Platform translations currently apply to the WeTravel interface across the traveler journey, including:

  • Your trip page and itinerary page (buttons, labels, and calls to action)

  • Checkout

  • Booking confirmation and automated traveler emails

  • The Manage Booking portal

Switching Languages Manually

Travelers can switch to any supported language using the language picker in the header of the trip page, itinerary page, or checkout - giving them full control over how they view each step of the booking process. Once they reach the Manage Booking page, their experience is automatically shown in the language they selected during their booking.

Travelers can also update their language directly from their account - under the Account tab, in the Profile section, a Language field lets them choose from any supported language:

Note: Custom buttons that you've set your own label for - like "See Availability" on your trip and itinerary pages, or "Book Now" and other embedded widgets - are not automatically translated, since you have full control to customize their text yourself. This only applies to buttons you can customize - default system buttons and labels are translated automatically.

Traveler Emails

When a booking is made in a language other than English, automated traveler emails are sent in that language.

  • Booking receipts

  • Login emails (leading to Manage booking)

  • Payment reminders

  • Cancellation and refunds emails

  • E-signature notifications

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this available on all plans?

Yes! Platform translations are available on all WeTravel plans.

What exactly gets translated?

The platform's own interface text is translated automatically - things like buttons, labels, and system messages (for example, "Ask a Question" becomes "Poser une question" in French). This applies to:

  • Your trip page and itinerary page (buttons, labels, and calls to action)

  • Checkout

  • Booking confirmation and automated traveler emails

  • The Manage Booking portal

Will my trip description and itinerary content be translated?

Not at this time. Content you write yourself - trip descriptions, itinerary details, package and add-on names - is not automatically translated. If you're targeting travelers in a specific language, we recommend writing your trip content directly in that language. Automatic translation of organizer-created content is being considered for a future roadmap.

Which automated emails are translated?

The most commonly sent traveler emails are translated first, covering things like booking receipts, login emails (leading to Manage booking portal) payment reminders, e-signature notifications, cancellations, and refund emails.

Is the insurance purchase flow translated?

Not at this time. Our insurance provider doesn't support translations yet, so this step and any related communication will stay in English. This is being considered for a future roadmap.

Do I need to configure anything to turn this on?

No setup is required. Once the feature is available on your account, translation happens automatically based on the traveler's detected language.

Does this work on the mobile experience too?

Yes, travelers get the same translated trip page, checkout, emails, and language picker whether they're on desktop or mobile web. It's not yet available in the My Trips app, but that's planned for a future release.

What if I have feedback on the translations?

We'd love to hear from you! Reach out to us at info@wetravel.com and we'll be happy to help.
