About QR Payment
QR Payment lets you take payment face-to-face, wherever you meet your travelers — your office, your reception desk, or right on-site at an event. You show a QR code, your customer scans it with their phone, chooses the amount to pay, and completes the payment right there on their device — no card reader, no terminal, no app or account needed on their end. The money lands in your regular WeTravel balance, with the same fees, payouts, and reporting as any other WeTravel payment, so there's nothing extra to reconcile. It's a natural fit for day tours, deposits, park fees, tips, or equipment rentals - anywhere you'd otherwise be taking a one-off payment on the spot.
How to create a QR payment code
After clicking “Create New” on your WeTravel account, you can select the “QR Payment” option as shown below:
Next, complete all required details in the QR payment link builder:
After entering the details, click "Create". This action will generate a payment link that can be downloaded, printed, or shared as a direct link:
You're ready as soon as it's printed — keep it at your counter or shop, and you're set to collect instant payments!
Note: Your customers decide and enter their own amount when they scan the code.
Collecting a payment on an existing booking
If a traveler already has a booking with you, you can collect payment for it directly in your Manage Trip dashboard - ideal for a final installment at check-in, or an add-on decided during the trip.
Adding the payment or add-on and selecting QR Pay displays a code on screen for your traveler to scan. Because the code is generated for that single moment, it remains valid for 30 minutes and is intended to be shown in person, rather than sent by chat or email.
Buyer’s perspective
When your traveler scans the code, they will be taken to a secure checkout page where they enter their buyer details, the amount they want to pay, and the purpose of the payment. From there, they can choose from the supported currencies and available payment methods to complete the payment.
A few important notes:
Payments are completed using instant payment methods such as card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay — no long processing and no waiting for funds to clear.
Buyers don't need to log in or create an account, so it's quick and convenient on their end.
The purpose of the payment is required — it protects you as an organizer if a charge is ever disputed.
Your buyer's card statement will show WT* followed by your business name, so the charge is easy for them to recognize.
Once the payment goes through, both you and your buyer get a receipt by email.
Manage QR Payments
Under Payments > QR Payments, you'll see every standalone QR code you've created, a Transactions tab alongside them, and a Create QR Payment button whenever you need a new one - plus, each code's own menu gives you these quick actions:
View details shows a summary of that code's activity.
Edit lets you update its details and publish the changes so the code reflects them right away.
Deactivate turns it off — the code stops accepting payments, but nothing is lost, so you can turn it back on any time from the same menu.
Open payment page takes you straight to the checkout page your customer would see.
Copy payment link grabs the direct URL, handy for sharing digitally without needing the QR image itself.
Show QR pulls up the code, ready to download or display.
Delete removes the code completely, so it's best used only once you're sure you won't need it again.
Note: QR pay codes tied to an existing booking don't appear in this list. The collected payment still appears in your Payments reporting, just like any other booking payment.
Payments Reporting
Every QR payment is also captured in your Reports > Payments view, alongside your other payment activity. From there, you can look up a specific transaction, issue a refund, or export the data just as you would for any other payment.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is QR In-Person Payment?
It's a way to collect payments by displaying a QR code that your customers scan with their phone. They choose the amount and complete the payment directly from their device.
Do I set the amount my customer pays via QR pay?
Not directly. With a standalone QR code, your customer enters the amount themselves when they scan it. For a code tied to an existing booking, it carries whatever balance is currently due instead.
Is there a limit on how much a customer can pay?
Yes - payments are capped at $2,500 USD (or the local equivalent) platform-wide, so it's not something we're able to raise for individual accounts. If you need to collect more than that in one go, a payment link is the better option.
Is there a limit to how many payments one QR code can accept?
No — once a code is created, it can be scanned and used by as many customers as you like. The only limit is per payment: each individual payment is capped at $2,500 USD (or the equivalent).
Can my team members access or create QR codes?
Yes — any team member with access to trips can create and manage QR codes.
Where can I see the payments collected through my QR code?
You'll find them in two places: under In-Person QR Payments for a code-by-code view, and in your Payments reporting section alongside your other payment activity, where you can view, refund, or manage them further.
Will my customers get a payment confirmation when they pay in person?
A standalone QR payment sends a payment confirmation directly to the buyer, and if they later log in to their account, they'll be able to find that payment there. A payment tied to an existing booking sends its confirmation the usual way, and also appears on that booking's dashboard.
Is QR Payment available if I'm using Stripe Standard?
Yes - QR Payment works for all organizers, including those on Stripe Standard.
