How do I apply for a WeTravel Card?
You can apply for a WeTravel Card by navigating to the Payments section in your account and selecting the WeTravel Cards tab. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your application.
After clicking the "Apply for WeTravel Card" button, you'll see a quick screen from Airwallex, our card-issuing partner, where you can review and accept the permissions needed to set up your card.
In the next step, you'll enter your business registration information. Your country will be pre-filled based on the details you verified with WeTravel, but you can change it from the dropdown if needed. Choosing the correct country ensures a smooth setup and accurate information entry:
The information required from this point on will vary depending on your business's country of registration. Please complete all sections carefully and provide the requested details in full. This may include:
Business documentation, such as your articles, partnership agreement or certificate of incorporation (supported formats: PDF, Word, JPG, JPEG, PNG, BMP; max 20MB)
Business details, such as your website, revenue, and the countries where you operate
Ownership information, such as a list of business owners, directors and their ownership percentages
Identity verification for each listed individual, which involves uploading a valid ID and completing a short liveness check (turning your head on camera) - you can do this by scanning a QR code with your mobile device
Depending on your business registration number, the system may automatically populate some of your business details - be sure to review them for accuracy before continuing.
Once you've submitted all the details and agreed to the Terms of Service, you'll see a confirmation screen indicating that your approval is in progress. This typically takes 3-10 business days. We'll notify you via email as soon as it's confirmed.
Note: In some cases, our issuing partner may reach out with a request for information if additional documentation is needed to complete your application. This is a routine part of the process, and providing the requested details promptly will help keep your application moving.
How do I create a card?
Once the approval is received, you can proceed to create your WeTravel card:
You can create a virtual card for yourself, an existing team member, or a new team member you invite during this step — new team members must fully join WeTravel via their invite before the card can be assigned to them.
You'll need to provide the cardholder's name (as it should appear on the card), birth date, phone number, and billing address.
After entering your information, click "Create Card" to finalize the process. You can create up to 50 virtual cards on your WeTravel account.
If you create a card for a team member, they may receive an email with a one-time verification request. If required, once they complete it, the card is ready to use and will appear directly in the team member's WeTravel account. This optional verification step helps confirm the cardholder's identity before the card becomes active.
Note: By default, team members can view the card assigned to them (card number, expiration date, and CVV), see their spending limit, freeze the card, view their card's real-time transaction history, and export their own card activity. They cannot terminate the card, edit spending limits, create new cards, or initiate transfers of funds.
With full Payouts & Reports permission enabled, team members gain the ability to create virtual team cards and supplier cards, and add or transfer money to and from card balances.
Once the card is created, the billing address will be visible under the "Card Details" section. You can update both the billing address and the phone number linked to the card at any time—whether it's your own card or one assigned to a team member.
Adding money to your WeTravel card balance
Your WeTravel card supports multiple currency balances — one of these is set as your main balance; if a payment can't be fully covered by the currency balance you're spending from, the remaining amount is drawn from your main balance and converted at that day's exchange rate.
To add money to your WeTravel card balance, click Add funds in the top right, then choose which balance you'd like to transfer the funds from.
You also have the option to add a reference, which will appear in your reporting.
Click "Continue" to confirm the transfer, and you are all set!
Important: For your WeTravel card to work, your main balance should be funded first. For example, if you'll mainly be making purchases in AUD, you still need to fund your USD main balance first (by converting AUD → USD) before adding funds to your AUD card balance.
Spending with your virtual WeTravel card
When you make a purchase, the amount is drawn from the matching currency balance on your card. If that balance doesn't hold enough to cover the full transaction, the entire amount is drawn from your main balance instead and converted at our issuing partner's rate — funds are never split across multiple balances to cover a single purchase.
You can set individual spending limits for each card by clicking the "Spend Limit" button in your card settings, where you can also view your current limits.
Good to know: there are no annual, card-creation, membership, or cross-border fees on your WeTravel card. If you ever spend in a currency you don't hold, the amount auto-converts from your main balance at our issuing partner's rate — with no separate conversion fee.
Withdraw your WeTravel card balance
To move money from your card balance back to your general balance, click Transfer to balance in the top right, then choose which card balance you'd like to transfer from.
Viewing and exporting transactions
Click on the card balance section to see a list of all transactions for any virtual team card or single-use supplier card, including pending and failed payments.
To export card activity, click on the card and select the Export button on the right, above the transactions list.
